Ivan
Gorohov
Ivan Gorohov is a science fiction writer based in Canada. Originally from Moldova, he is drawn to stories that explore the limits of human understanding—and the choices people make when the world they know begins to unravel.
His novel Defect brings together mystery, speculative science, and an ancient civilization hidden beneath the surface of the Earth. At its heart is a question about identity: if your memories could be rewritten, what would remain of you?
Defect
Six thousand sailors disappear. Their memories do not survive.
On its maiden voyage, the American aircraft carrier Sea God vanishes without a trace. The world believes it sank. But its crew is alive—serving an ancient empire hidden beneath Earth's surface, with their memories erased and replaced.
When one sailor, Constantin, unexpectedly remembers who he is, he becomes a defect in the empire's system of control. And he discovers an extraordinary gift: the ability to communicate with Water, a living intelligence that could change humanity's fate.
